WESTERN EQUITATION : Mr. Burt refers to equitation as an art form by explaining the “unstyle of riding”, or how one can improve by tailoring the ride to the horse and the individual rider. Emphasis is placed on being as close to the horse as possible. Instruction includes the correct seat, use of silver, wearing apparel, and the “one-silhouette” look. The instruction concludes with strategies on how to ride the class. Find out what the judge wants to see and how he looks for it.

DON BURT, a professional horseman for 30 years, is one of the few people qualified to judge every breed of horse, and the only one to ever have judged all major breeds in national or world championships. He has been voted by horse show exhibitors Best Judge in the nation eight times. He is the author of a monthly column for Horse & Rider, and has written several leading equestrian books. Mr. Burt also develops equestrian centers throughout the United States.
