Circus - the glittering, glamorous world of the big top, with horses snorting and elephants trumpeting in the ring, excited audiences, cheering children, and then the calm precision of training and rehearsal. These are the factors which determine the rhythm of this film.

Throughout one season, we accompany the people and the animals of the Swiss National Circus Knie as they move from town to town and then return to their winter quarters. And we meet three generations of the family who give this circus its name:

Fredy Knie Sr. established the family's reputation for equestrian expertise. His success stems not from spectacular tricks but from patient effort, quiet dedication, and deep knowledge of horses.

Fredy Knie Jr. stages his dressage acts as total works of art. Music, decor, costumes, and choreography all play a role that is in harmony with the horses.

Geraldine Katharina Knie represents the youngest generation of this circus family. Her interaction with her horses has the quality of a modern ballet.
